If you would like to enrol your children at Oratia District School, please keep in mind that we have a school zone.

If places are available, children who live outside the school zone will be considered for enrolment under the following Priority 2 criteria. These are in no specific order.

  • Siblings of children currently or previously enrolled at Oratia District School
  • Children of families with traditional association (with one parent and one grandparent who attended Oratia District School)
  • Children of staff members

The Enrolment Process

It helps us greatly with our planning if you let us know of your intention to enrol your child at our school.  Please pick up a copy of our enrolment pack from the school office at least six weeks prior to your child turning five so that we can begin the pre-enrolment process. All applications must be made to the school principal, who is required to ask for proof of residence within the boundaries (such as a rate demand) from all parents enroling children, except those enrolling under Priority 2. Where any parent enrolling a child is unable to produce such documentary evidence, they may be required to complete the Oratia District School Enrolment Statutory Declaration establishing that they are resident in the zone.

Once we have received your completed enrollment forms and your child is approaching their start date, you will receive a letter from us acknowledging your application and welcoming your family to the school. This letter will tell you which room your child has been placed in and who his or her teacher will be. You will also receive information about stationery requirements and our school donation.

If your child is enrolling as a New Entrant, you and your child will be invited to make three ‘school visits’ prior to their starting date. These informal visits are held on Monday mornings from 9am to 11am and help children become familiar with the school and the classroom and get to know their new teacher and classmates. A parent or caregiver stays in the class with the child during the class visits.
