Our school has been a part of the EnviroSchools programme for several years and in 2012 was awarded Silver EnviroSchool status. We are now working towards Gold Status.
The programme is all about working out how to live so that our we can nourish the natural systems that give us life, and create a healthy, peaceful, sustainable world through teaching and learning together. We integrate this into our curriculum in many ways.
In 2012 we opened our new Mara o Wananga (Garden of Learning) Enviro Learning Area. The shade houses and gardens are proving to be a valuable addition to our learning environment. During November 2012, our student enviro leaders, teachers and some parents participated in a reflection day. During this day we took stock of our progress to see if we had done enough work to warrant being a silver enviro school. By the end of the day it was clear that we had!
