Enabling children to learn in their own way is a priority at Oratia District School.
In this section of our website you can find information about our school curriculum. We have also supplied a guide to our assessment tools and an explanation of the various ways we report to our community in relation to student achievement.
The New Zealand Curriculum identifies five Key Competencies – thinking, using language, symbols and texts, managing self, relating to others, and participating and contributing. Our students need to master these competencies to live, learn, work and contribute as active members of their communities. For more information click here.
We believe a strong partnership between home and school is key to supporting our students in their learning. For more information click here.
At Oratia District School we believe that all children have the right to be included in all activities, and to achieve to the best of their ability. We make provision and cater for children who learn differently from others, children who are differently abled and children who have special abilities. We believe that every child has the right to learn and every teacher has the right to teach. It is an expectation that behaviour will be managed positively and that adults and children will interact respectfully. Managing behaviour is complex and we do our best to individualise this process for each child according to their needs and their sensitivities. One of the most important ways a child’s school and parents or caregivers can support them is by helping them with major transitions. For information about starting school click here. For advice on how to help your child move on to the next step of their education, click here.
