World Environment Day

We have pledged to reduce the amount of waste we send to the landfill each day.  Our Envirogroup have made some signs and have spoken to all the classes about this.  We got some new bins for a proper recycling system.  We have launched a bucket system for recycling.  We now have green buckets for worm food, yellow buckets for compost food scraps, red for yoghurt containers, blue for plastics 1-7, glass and cans and white for landfill items.  We have discovered that Noodle containers from the lunch room has a 6 on the lid and so the lid and container can both be recycled.  

We were surprised at what some people wanted to put in the bins.  Here are some photos of our bins.  No bad.  But not good either.  Some children wanted to put their whole sandwich in the bin.  Others did not even open the yoghurt.  We had to ask:  "Will the worms eat that?"  We learn new things all the time about our environment.
